When the kingof Israelreadthe letter,he torehis clothesand said,"Am I God,to killand to makealive,that thisman is sending[word] to me to curea manof his leprosy?But considernow,and seehowhe is seekinga quarrelagainst me."
When I heardabout thismatter,I toremy garmentand my robe,and pulledsomeof the hairfrom my headand my beard,and satdownappalled.
Thussaysthe LordGODof hosts,"Come,goto thissteward,To Shebna,whois in chargeof the [royal] household,
"Then it will comeabout in that day,That I will summonMy servantEliakimthe sonof Hilkiah,
I will bringdistressto Ariel,And she will be [a city of] lamentingand mourning;And she will be like an Arielto me.
Behold,their bravemencryin the streets,The ambassadorsof peaceweepbitterly.
Then Eliakimand Shebnaand Joahsaidto Rabshakeh,"Speaknowto your servantsin Aramaic,for we understand[it]; and do not speakwith us in Judeanin the hearingof the peoplewhoare on the wall."
