I gaveyou a kingin My angerAnd tookhim away in My wrath.
By the transgressionof a landmanyare its princes,But by a manof understanding[and] knowledge,soit endures.
Surelynowthey will say,"We havenoking,For we do not reverethe LORD.As for the king,whatcan he dofor us?"
Samariawill be cutoff[with] her kingLike a stickon the surfaceof the water.
For the sonsof Israelwill remainfor manydayswithoutkingor prince,withoutsacrificeor [sacred] pillarand withoutephodor householdidols.
They have setup kings,but not by Me; They have appointedprinces,but I did not know[it]. With their silverand goldthey have madeidolsfor themselves, That they might be cutoff.
Thereafter Samuelcalledthe peopletogetherto the LORDat Mizpah;
"But you have todayrejectedyour God,whodeliversyou from allyour calamitiesand your distresses;yet you have said,'No,but seta kingoverus!' Nowtherefore, presentyourselves beforethe LORDby your tribesand by your clans."
Then Samuelsaidto allIsrael,"Behold,I have listenedto your voicein allthat you saidto me and I have appointeda kingoveryou.
"Nowtherefore, hereis the kingwhomyou have chosen,whomyou have askedfor, and behold,the LORDhas seta kingoveryou.
But Samuelsaidto Saul,"I will not returnwith you; for you have rejectedthe wordof the LORD,and the LORDhas rejectedyou from beingkingoverIsrael."
Now the LORDsaidto Samuel,"Howlongwill you grieveoverSaul,since I have rejectedhim from beingkingoverIsrael?Fillyour hornwith oiland go;I will sendyou to Jessethe Bethlehemite,for I have selecteda kingfor Myself among his sons."
