By faithAbelofferedto Goda bettersacrificethanCain,throughwhichhe obtainedthe testimonythat he was righteous,Godtestifyingabouthis gifts,and throughfaith, though he is dead,he stillspeaks.
and to Jesus,the mediatorof a newcovenant,and to the sprinkledblood,which speaksbetterthan[the blood] of Abel.
He said,"Whathave you done?The voiceof your brother'sbloodis cryingto Me from the ground.
Woeto them! For they have gonethe wayof Cain,and for paythey have rushed headlonginto the errorof Balaam,and perishedin the rebellionof Korah.
sothat upon you may fall[the guilt of] allthe righteousbloodshedon earth,from the bloodof righteousAbelto the bloodof Zechariah,the sonof Berechiah,whomyou murderedbetweenthe templeand the altar.
The sacrificeof the wickedis an abominationto the LORD,But the prayerof the uprightis His delight.
And accordingto the Law,[one may] almost[say], all thingsare cleansedwith blood,and withoutshedding of bloodthere is noforgiveness.
So the LORDsaidto him, "ThereforewhoeverkillsCain,vengeancewill be takenon him sevenfold."And the LORDappointeda signfor Cain,so that noonefindinghim would slayhim.
CaintoldAbelhis brother.And it cameabout when they were in the field,that Cainroseup againstAbelhis brotherand killedhim.
Therefore,since we haveso greata cloudof witnessessurroundingus, let us alsolay asideeveryencumbranceand the sinwhich so easily entanglesus, and let us runwith endurancethe racethat is set beforeus,
from the bloodof Abelto the bloodof Zechariah,who was killedbetweenthe altarand the house[of God]; yes,I tellyou, it shall be chargedagainstthisgeneration.'
The sacrificeof the wickedis an abomination,Howmuchmorewhenhe bringsit with evilintent!
Then the fireof the LORDfelland consumedthe burntofferingand the woodand the stonesand the dust,and lickedup the waterthat was in the trench.
Then firecameout from beforethe LORDand consumedthe burntofferingand the portionsof faton the altar;and when allthe peoplesaw[it], they shoutedand fellon their faces.
Adamhadrelationswith his wifeagain;and she gavebirthto a son,and namedhim Seth,for, [she said], "Godhas appointedme anotheroffspringin placeof Abel,for Cainkilledhim."
They professto knowGod,but by [their] deedsthey deny[Him], beingdetestableand disobedientand worthlessfor anygooddeed.
For everyhigh priesttakenfrom amongmenis appointedon behalfof menin things pertainingto God,in orderto offerbothgiftsand sacrificesfor sins;
For by it the men of oldgained approval.
(for by what he sawand heard[that] righteousman,while livingamongthem, felt[his] righteoussoultormenteddayafterdayby [their] lawlessdeeds),
"Will they not teachyou [and] tellyou, And bringforthwordsfrom their minds?
