When the [time of] mourningwas over,Davidsentand broughther to his houseand she becamehis wife;then she borehim a son.But the thingthat Davidhad donewas evilin the sightof the LORD.
He calledto the LORDand said,"O LORDmy God,have You alsobroughtcalamityto the widowwith whomI am staying,by causing her sonto die?"
The sonsof Judah[were] Er,Onanand Shelah;[these] threewere bornto him by Bath-shuathe Canaanitess.And Er,Judah'sfirstborn,was wickedin the sightof the LORD,so He puthim to death.
Godwas displeasedwith thisthing,so He struckIsrael.
The wickedis thrustdownby his wrongdoing,But the righteoushasa refugewhen he dies.
Orthe LORDwill see[it] and be displeased,And turnHis angerawayfrom him.
Yet I sentyou allMy servantsthe prophets,againand again,saying,"Oh,do not dothisabominablethingwhichI hate."
Then Haggai,the messengerof the LORD,spokeby the commissionof the LORDto the peoplesaying,"'I am with you,' declaresthe LORD."
Now the peoplebecamelike those who complainof adversityin the hearingof the LORD;and when the LORDheard[it], His angerwas kindled,and the fireof the LORDburnedamong them and consumed[some] of the outskirtsof the camp.
Balaamsaidto the angelof the LORD,"I have sinned,for I did not knowthat you were standingin the wayagainstme. Nowthen, ifit is displeasingto you, I will turnback."

"Ifone mansinsagainst another,Godwill mediatefor him; but ifa mansinsagainst the LORD,whocan intercedefor him?" But they would not listento the voiceof their father,for the LORDdesiredto putthem to death.
