Thisis allegorically speaking,for these[women] are twocovenants:one[proceeding] from MountSinaibearing childrenwho are to be slaves;she is Hagar.
He said,"Hagar,Sarai'smaid,wherehave you comefrom and whereare you going?"And she said,"I am fleeingfrom the presenceof my mistressSarai."
Now theseare [the records of] the generationsof Ishmael,Abraham'sson,whomHagarthe Egyptian,Sarah'smaid,boreto Abraham;
Then I said,"AhLordGOD!They are sayingof me, 'Is he not [just] speakingparables?'"
They will walkafterthe LORD,He will roarlike a lion;IndeedHe will roarAnd [His] sonswill cometremblingfrom the west.
[This was] to fulfillwhatwas spokenthroughthe prophet:"I WILL OPENMY MOUTHIN PARABLES;I WILL UTTERTHINGS HIDDENSINCETHE FOUNDATIONOF THE WORLD."
For you have not receiveda spiritof slaveryleadingto fearagain,but you have receiveda spiritof adoption as sonsby whichwe cryout, "Abba!Father!"
Nowthese thingshappenedto them as an example,and they were writtenfor our instruction,upon whomthe endsof the ageshave come.
and alldrankthe samespiritualdrink,for they were drinkingfrom a spiritualrockwhich followedthem; and the rockwas Christ.
NowthisHagaris MountSinaiin Arabiaand correspondsto the presentJerusalem,for she is in slaverywith her children.
Soalsowe, whilewe were children,were held in bondageunderthe elemental thingsof the world.
It was for freedomthat Christset us free;thereforekeep standing firmand do not be subjectagainto a yokeof slavery.
He said,"The LORDcamefrom Sinai,And dawnedon them from Seir;He shoneforthfrom MountParan,And He camefrom the midst of tenthousandholyones;At His righthandthere was flashinglightningfor them.
He consideredthat Godis ableto raise[people] evenfrom the dead,from whichhe alsoreceived him backas a type.
and to Jesus,the mediatorof a newcovenant,and to the sprinkledblood,which speaksbetterthan[the blood] of Abel.
Nowthe Godof peace,who broughtup from the deadthe greatShepherdof the sheepthroughthe bloodof the eternalcovenant,[even] Jesusour Lord,
so muchthe morealsoJesushas becomethe guaranteeof a bettercovenant.
