Nowa mediatoris not for one[party only]; whereasGodis [only] one.
On that daythe LORDmadea covenantwith Abram, saying,"To your descendantsI have giventhisland,From the riverof Egyptas faras the greatriver, the riverEuphrates:
"Thereis noumpirebetweenus, Who may layhis handupon us both.
Nowhe was very angrywith the people of Tyreand Sidon;and with one accordthey cameto him, and having won overBlastusthe king'schamberlain, they were askingfor peace, becausetheir countrywas fedby the king'scountry.
What I am sayingis this:the Law,which camefour hundredand thirtyyearslater, does not invalidatea covenantpreviously ratifiedby God,soas to nullifythe promise.
"Hear,O Israel!The LORDis our God,the LORDis one!
For there is oneGod,[and] onemediatoralsobetween Godand men,[the] manChristJesus,
and to Jesus, the mediatorof a newcovenant, and to the sprinkledblood, which speaksbetterthan[the blood] of Abel.
But nowHe has obtaineda more excellentministry,by as muchas He is alsothe mediatorof a bettercovenant, whichhas been enactedon betterpromises.
For thisreasonHe is the mediatorof a newcovenant, sothat, since a deathhas taken placefor the redemptionof the transgressionsthat were [committed] underthe firstcovenant, thosewho have been calledmay receivethe promiseof the eternalinheritance.
