"So your altarswill becomedesolateand your incensealtarswill be smashed;and I will make your slainfallin frontof your idols.
He criedagainstthe altarby the wordof the LORD,and said,"O altar,altar,thussaysthe LORD,'Behold,a sonshall be bornto the houseof David,Josiahby name;and on you he shall sacrificethe priestsof the highplaceswho burnincenseon you, and humanbonesshall be burnedon you.'"
He brokein piecesthe [sacred] pillarsand cutdownthe Asherimand filledtheir placeswith humanbones.
He also removedthe highplacesand the incensealtarsfrom allthe citiesof Judah.And the kingdomwas undisturbedunderhim.
Thereforethrough thisJacob'siniquitywill be forgiven;And thiswill be the fullpriceof the pardoningof his sin:When he makesallthe altarstoneslike pulverizedchalkstones;[When] Asherimand incensealtarswill not stand.
"He will also shatterthe obelisksof Heliopolis,whichis in the landof Egypt;and the templesof the godsof Egypthe will burnwith fire."'"
"Therefore,behold,daysare coming,"declaresthe LORD,"when it will nolongerbe calledTopheth,or the valleyof the sonof Hinnom,but the valleyof the Slaughter;for they will buryin Tophethbecausethereis no[other] place.
"Then you will knowthat I am the LORD,when their slainare amongtheir idolsaroundtheir altars,on everyhighhill,on allthe topsof the mountains,undereverygreentreeand undereveryleafyoak--the placeswherethey offeredsoothingaromato alltheir idols.
I then will destroyyour highplaces,and cutdownyour incensealtars,and heapyour remainson the remainsof your idols,for My soulshall abhoryou.
But when they aroseearlythe nextmorning,behold,Dagonhad fallenon his faceto the groundbeforethe arkof the LORD.And the headof Dagonand boththe palmsof his hands[were] cutoffon the threshold;onlythe trunk of Dagonwas leftto him.
