"Thereis nopeacefor the wicked,"saysthe LORD.
Now in the sameyear,in the beginningof the reignof Zedekiahkingof Judah,in the fourthyear,in the fifthmonth,Hananiahthe sonof Azzur,the prophet,whowas from Gibeon,spoketo me in the houseof the LORDin the presenceof the priestsand allthe people,saying,
"Sendto allthe exiles,saying,'Thussaysthe LORDconcerningShemaiahthe Nehelamite,"BecauseShemaiahhas prophesiedto you, although I did not sendhim, and he has made you trustin a lie,"
The prophetsprophesyfalsely,And the priestsruleon their [own] authority;And My peopleloveit so!But whatwill you doat the endof it?
"They have healedthe brokennessof My peoplesuperficially,Saying,'Peace,peace,'But thereis nopeace.
"They healthe brokennessof the daughterof My peoplesuperficially,Saying,'Peace,peace,'But thereis nopeace.
"It is definitelybecausethey have misledMy peopleby saying,Peace!'when thereis nopeace.And when anyonebuildsa wall,behold,they plasterit overwith whitewash;
"Thus I will spendMy wrathon the walland on those who have plasteredit overwith whitewash;and I will sayto you, 'The wallis goneand its plasterersare gone,
When anguishcomes,they will seekpeace,but therewill be none.
