I have seenthat nothingis betterthanthat manshould be happyin his activities,for that is his lot.For whowill bringhim to seewhatwill occurafterhim?
Thereis nothingbetterfor a man[than] to eatand drinkand tellhimselfthat his laboris good.ThisalsoI have seenthat it is from the handof God.
Yet the foolmultiplieswords.Nomanknowswhatwill happen,and whocan tellhim whatwill comeafterhim?
Ifnooneknowswhatwill happen,whocan tellhim whenit will happen?
For whoknowswhatis goodfor a manduring [his] lifetime,[during] the fewyearsof his futilelife?He will spendthem like a shadow.For whocan tella manwhatwill be afterhim underthe sun?
Rejoice,youngman,during your childhood,and let your heartbe pleasantduring the daysof youngmanhood.And followthe impulsesof your heartand the desiresof your eyes.Yet knowthat Godwill bringyou to judgmentfor allthesethings.
"Sodo not worryabouttomorrow;for tomorrowwill carefor itself.Each dayhas enoughtroubleof its own.
"But as for you, go[your way] to the end;then you will enterinto restand rise[again] for your allottedportionat the endof the age."
Moreover,mandoes not knowhis time:like fishcaughtin a treacherousnetand birdstrappedin a snare,so the sonsof menare ensnaredat an eviltimewhen it suddenlyfallson them.
So I commendedpleasure,for thereis nothinggoodfor a manunderthe sunexceptto eatand to drinkand to be merry,and thiswill standby him in his toils[throughout] the daysof his lifewhichGodhas givenhim underthe sun.
"His sonsachievehonor,but he does not know[it]; Or they becomeinsignificant,but he does not perceiveit.
"Becauseyou did not servethe LORDyour Godwith joyand a gladheart,for the abundanceof allthings;
"But you shall eatthem beforethe LORDyour Godin the placewhichthe LORDyour Godwill choose,you and your sonand daughter,and your maleand femaleservants,and the Levitewhois within your gates;and you shall rejoicebeforethe LORDyour Godin allyour undertakings.
"Therealso you and your householdsshall eatbeforethe LORDyour God,and rejoicein allyour undertakingsin whichthe LORDyour Godhas blessedyou.
Thus I hatedallthe fruitof my laborfor whichI had laboredunderthe sun,for I must leaveit to the manwhowill comeafterme.
In the dayof prosperitybe happy,But in the dayof adversityconsider--Godhas madethe oneas wellas the otherSothat manwill not discoveranything[that will be] afterhim.
Indeedtheir love,their hateand their zealhave alreadyperished,and they will nolongerhavea sharein allthat is doneunderthe sun.
