"Then the LORDspoketo you from the midstof the fire;you heardthe soundof words,but you sawnoform--onlya voice.
The LORDsaidto Moses,"Behold,I will cometo you in a thickcloud,sothat the peoplemay hearwhen I speakwith you and may alsobelievein you forever."Then Mosestoldthe wordsof the peopleto the LORD.
Then the LORDsaidto Moses,"Thusyou shall sayto the sonsof Israel,'You yourselveshave seenthat I have spokento you from heaven.
Your earswill heara wordbehindyou, "Thisis the way,walkin it," wheneveryou turnto the rightor to the left.
To whomthen will you likenGod?Or whatlikenesswill you comparewith Him?
A voiceis calling,"Clearthe wayfor the LORDin the wilderness;Makesmoothin the deserta highwayfor our God.
A voicesays,"Callout." Then he answered,"Whatshall I callout?" Allfleshis grass,and allits lovelinessis like the flowerof the field.
With him I speakmouthto mouth,Even openly,and not in darksayings,And he beholdsthe formof the LORD.Whythen were you not afraidTo speakagainst My servant,against Moses?"
While he was stillspeaking,a brightcloudovershadowedthem, and behold,a voiceout of the cloudsaid,"Thisis My belovedSon,with whomI am well-pleased;listento Him!"
and behold,a voiceout of the heavenssaid,"Thisis My belovedSon,in whomI am well-pleased."
For thisis the one referredto by Isaiahthe prophetwhen he said,"THE VOICEOF ONE CRYINGIN THE WILDERNESS,MAKE READYTHE WAYOF THE LORD,MAKEHIS PATHSSTRAIGHT!'"
"He wroteon the tablets,like the formerwriting,the TenCommandmentswhichthe LORDhad spokento you on the mountainfrom the midstof the fireon the dayof the assembly;and the LORDgavethem to me.
"You camenearand stoodat the footof the mountain,and the mountainburnedwith fireto the [very] heartof the heavens:darkness,cloudand thickgloom.
"So He declaredto you His covenantwhichHe commandedyou to perform,[that is], the TenCommandments;and He wrotethem on twotabletsof stone.
"So watchyourselvescarefully,sinceyou did not seeanyformon the daythe LORDspoketo you at Horebfrom the midstof the fire,
"Has [any] peopleheardthe voiceof Godspeakingfrom the midstof the fire,as you have heard[it], and survived?
"Out of the heavensHe let you hearHis voiceto disciplineyou; and on earthHe let you seeHis greatfire,and you heardHis wordsfrom the midstof the fire.
"Thesewordsthe LORDspoketo allyour assemblyat the mountainfrom the midstof the fire,[of] the cloudand [of] the thickgloom,with a greatvoice,and He addednomore.He wrotethem on twotabletsof stoneand gavethem to me.
"The LORDspoketo you faceto faceat the mountainfrom the midstof the fire,
"The LORDgaveme the twotabletsof stonewrittenby the fingerof God;and on them [were] allthe wordswhichthe LORDhad spokenwith you at the mountainfrom the midstof the fireon the dayof the assembly.
He is the imageof the invisibleGod,the firstbornof allcreation.
and to the blastof a trumpetand the soundof wordswhich[sound was such that] thosewho heardbeggedthat nofurtherwordbe spokento them.
