For thisreasonat that timecertainChaldeanscameforwardand broughtchargesagainstthe Jews.
But he disdainedto layhandson Mordecaialone,for they had toldhim [who] the peopleof Mordecai[were]; therefore Hamansoughtto destroyallthe Jews,the peopleof Mordecai,who[were] throughout the wholekingdomof Ahasuerus.
youthsin whomwas nodefect,who were good-looking,showingintelligencein every[branch of] wisdom,endowedwith understandingand discerningknowledge,and whohad abilityfor servingin the king'scourt;and [he ordered him] to teachthem the literatureand languageof the Chaldeans.
The Chaldeansansweredthe kingand said,"Thereis not a manon earthwhocoulddeclarethe matterfor the king,inasmuchas nogreatkingor rulerhas [ever] askedanythinglike thisof anymagician,conjureror Chaldean.
Then the kinggaveordersto callin the magicians,the conjurers,the sorcerersand the Chaldeansto tellthe kinghis dreams.So they camein and stoodbeforethe king.
Thereforeat that time,whenallthe peoplesheardthe soundof the horn,flute,lyre,trigon,psaltery,bagpipeand allkindsof music,allthe peoples,nationsand [men of every] languagefelldown[and] worshipedthe goldenimagethat Nebuchadnezzarthe kinghad setup.
"Thenthe magicians,the conjurers,the Chaldeansand the divinerscamein and I relatedthe dreamto them, but they could not makeits interpretationknownto me.
Thenthe commissionersand satrapsbegan tryingto finda groundof accusationagainst Danielin regardto governmentaffairs;but they couldfindnogroundof accusationor [evidence of] corruption,inasmuchas he was faithful,and nonegligenceor corruptionwas [to be] foundin him.
"But we desireto hearfrom you whatyour viewsare; for concerningthissect,it is knownto us that it is spoken againsteverywhere."
