Then the commanderof the officialsassigned[new] namesto them; and to Danielhe assigned[the name] Belteshazzar,to HananiahShadrach,to MishaelMeshachand to AzariahAbed-nego.
Then PharaohnamedJosephZaphenath-paneah;and he gavehim Asenath,the daughterof Potipherapriestof On,as his wife.And Josephwentforthoverthe landof Egypt.
PharaohNecomadeEliakimthe sonof Josiahkingin the placeof Josiahhis father,and changedhis nameto Jehoiakim.But he tookJehoahazaway and brought[him] to Egypt,and he diedthere.
Then the kingof Babylonmadehis uncleMattaniahkingin his place,and changedhis nameto Zedekiah.
The kingtalkedwith them, and out of them allnot one was foundlike Daniel,Hananiah,Mishaeland Azariah;so they enteredthe king'spersonalservice.
Then the kingorderedAshpenaz,the chiefof his officials,to bringin someof the sonsof Israel,including someof the royalfamilyand of the nobles,
In the thirdyearof Cyruskingof Persiaa messagewas revealedto Daniel,whowas namedBelteshazzar;and the messagewas true and [one of] greatconflict,but he understoodthe messageand had an understandingof the vision.
The kingsaidto Daniel,whosenamewas Belteshazzar,"Are you ableto makeknownto me the dreamwhichI have seenand its interpretation?"
And Danielmaderequestof the king,and he appointedShadrach,Meshachand Abed-negooverthe administrationof the provinceof Babylon,while Daniel[was] at the king'scourt.
"I sawa dreamand it mademe fearful;and [these] fantasies[as I lay] on my bedand the visionsin my mindkeptalarmingme.
"But finallyDanielcamein beforeme, whosenameis Belteshazzaraccording to the nameof my god,and in whomis a spiritof the holygods;and I relatedthe dreamto him, [saying],
"[This was] becausean extraordinaryspirit,knowledgeand insight,interpretationof dreams,explanationof enigmasand solvingof difficultproblemswere foundin this Daniel,whomthe kingnamedBelteshazzar.Let Danielnowbe summonedand he will declarethe interpretation."
