When they had appointedeldersfor them in everychurch,having prayedwith fasting,they commendedthem to the Lordin whomthey had believed.
["But thiskinddoes not goout exceptby prayerand fasting.]"
And He appointedtwelve,sothat they would be with Him and that He [could] sendthem out to preach,
and then as a widowto the ageof eighty-four.She neverleftthe temple,servingnightand daywith fastingsand prayers.
And Jesus,cryingout with a loudvoice,said,"Father,INTO YOUR HANDSI COMMITMY SPIRIT."Having saidthis,He breathed His last.
beginningwith the baptismof Johnuntilthe daythat He was takenup from us-- oneof these[must] becomea witnesswith us of His resurrection."
And they prayedand said,"You, Lord,who know the heartsof all men,showwhichoneof thesetwoYou have chosen
And thisthey did,sendingit in chargeof Barnabasand Saulto the elders.
From therethey sailedto Antioch,from whichthey had beencommendedto the graceof Godfor the workthat they had accomplished.
and they sent this letterby them, "The apostlesand the brethrenwho are elders,to the brethrenin Antiochand Syriaand Ciliciawhoare from the Gentiles,greetings.
When they arrivedat Jerusalem,they were receivedby the churchand the apostlesand the elders,and they reportedallthat Godhad donewith them.
The apostlesand the elderscame togetherto lookinto thismatter.
From Miletushe sentto Ephesusand calledto him the eldersof the church.
"And nowI commendyou to Godand to the wordof His grace,which is ableto build[you] up and to give[you] the inheritanceamongallthosewho are sanctified.
and not only[this], but he has alsobeen appointedby the churchesto travelwith us in thisgracious work,which is being administeredby us for the gloryof the LordHimself,and [to show] our readiness,
Do not sharply rebukean older man,but [rather] appealto [him] as a father,[to] the younger menas brothers,
Do not layhandsupon anyone[too] hastilyand therebyshare[responsibility for] the sinsof others;keepyourselffree from sin.
For thisreasonI alsosufferthese things,but I am not ashamed;for I knowwhomI have believedand I am convincedthat He is ableto guardwhat I have entrustedto Him untilthat day.
The things whichyou have heardfrom me in the presenceof manywitnesses,entrusttheseto faithfulmenwhowill be ableto teachothersalso.
For thisreasonI leftyou in Crete,that you would set in orderwhat remainsand appointeldersin everycityas I directedyou,
Is anyoneamongyou sick?[Then] he must callfor the eldersof the churchand they are to prayoverhim, anointinghim with oilin the nameof the Lord;
Therefore,I exhortthe eldersamongyou, as [your] fellow elderand witnessof the sufferingsof Christ,and a partakeralsoof the glorythat is to be revealed,
After you have sufferedfor a little while,the Godof allgrace,who calledyou to His eternalgloryin Christ,will Himselfperfect,confirm,strengthen[and] establishyou.
The elderto the chosenladyand her children,whomI lovein truth;and not onlyI, but alsoallwho knowthe truth,
The elderto the belovedGaius,whomI lovein truth.
