But avoidworldly[and] empty chatter,for it will leadto furtherungodliness,
But avoidfoolishcontroversiesand genealogiesand strifeand disputesabout the Law,for they are unprofitableand worthless.
OTimothy,guardwhat has been entrustedto you, avoidingworldly[and] empty chatter[and] the opposing argumentsof what is falsely called"knowledge"--
not paying attentionto Jewishmythsand commandmentsof menwho turn awayfrom the truth.
Remind[them] of these things,and solemnly charge[them] in the presenceof Godnot to wrangle about words,which is useless[and leads] to the ruinof the hearers.
Ephraimfeedson wind,And pursuesthe eastwindcontinually;He multipliesliesand violence.Moreover, he makesa covenantwith Assyria,And oilis carriedto Egypt.
Then Ezrathe prieststoodup and saidto them, "You have beenunfaithfuland have marriedforeignwivesaddingto the guiltof Israel.
[I saw] oneof his headsas ifit had been slain,and his fatalwoundwas healed.And the wholeearthwas amazed[and followed] afterthe beast;
For speakingout arrogant[words] of vanitythey enticeby fleshlydesires,by sensuality,thosewho barelyescapefrom the ones who livein error,
Manywill followtheir sensuality,and becauseof them the wayof the truthwill be maligned;
Seeto it that noonecomes shortof the graceof God;that norootof bitternessspringingup causes trouble,and by it manybe defiled;
whomustbe silencedbecausethey are upsettingwholefamilies,teachingthingsthey shouldnot [teach] for the sakeof sordidgain.
But evilmenand impostorswill proceed[from bad] to worse,deceivingand being deceived.
But have nothing to dowith worldlyfablesfit only for old women.On the otherhand,disciplineyourselffor the purpose of godliness;
Do not be deceived:"Badcompanycorruptsgoodmorals."
Your boastingis not good.Do you not knowthat a littleleavenleavensthe wholelump[of dough]?
And he deceivesthosewho dwellon the earthbecauseof the signswhichit was givenhim to performin the presenceof the beast,tellingthosewho dwellon the earthto makean imageto the beastwhohadthe woundof the swordand has come to life.
realizingthe factthat lawis not madefor a righteous person,but for those who are lawlessand rebellious,for the ungodlyand sinners,for the unholyand profane,for those who killtheir fathersormothers,for murderers
Therefore,ifanyonecleanseshimselffrom these[things], he will be a vesselfor honor,sanctified,usefulto the Master,preparedfor everygoodwork.
