Then Hezekiahkingof Judahsentto the kingof Assyriaat Lachish,saying,"I have donewrong.Withdrawfrom me; whateveryou imposeon me I will bear."So the kingof Assyriarequiredof Hezekiahkingof Judahthreehundredtalentsof silverand thirtytalentsof gold.
The kingof Israelreplied,"It is according to your word,my lord,O king;I am yours, and allthat I have."
And the one who[was] overthe household,and he who[was] overthe city,the elders,and the guardiansof [the children], sent[word] to Jehu,saying,"We are your servants,allthat you sayto us we will do,we will not makeanymanking;dowhatis goodin your sight."
They conspiredagainsthim in Jerusalem,and he fledto Lachish;but they sentafterhim to Lachishand killedhim there.
Then Menahemexactedthe moneyfrom Israel,even from allthe mightymenof wealth,from eachmanfiftyshekelsof silverto paythe kingof Assyria.So the kingof Assyriareturnedand did not remaintherein the land.
And the LORDwas with him; whereverhe wenthe prospered.And he rebelledagainst the kingof Assyriaand did not servehim.
Then Rabshakehreturnedand foundthe kingof AssyriafightingagainstLibnah,for he had heardthat the king had leftLachish.
The fearof manbringsa snare,But he who trustsin the LORDwill be exalted.
when the armyof the kingof Babylonwas fightingagainstJerusalemand againstallthe remainingcitiesof Judah,[that is], Lachishand Azekah,for they [alone] remainedas fortifiedcitiesamong the citiesof Judah.
