To thisdaythey doaccording to the earliercustoms:they do not fearthe LORD,nordo they followtheir statutesor their ordinancesor the law,or the commandmentswhichthe LORDcommandedthe sonsof Jacob,whomHe namedIsrael;
He said,"Your nameshall nolongerbe Jacob,but Israel;for you have strivenwith Godand with menand have prevailed."
Then Jacobaskedhim and said,"Pleasetellme your name."But he said,"Whyis it that you askmy name?"And he blessedhim there.
Then he erectedtherean altarand calledit El-Elohe-Israel.
Godsaidto him, "Your nameis Jacob;You shall nolongerbe calledJacob,But Israelshall be your name."Thus He calledhim Israel.
He saidto Jeroboam,"Takefor yourself tenpieces;for thussaysthe LORD,the Godof Israel,'Behold,I will tearthe kingdomout of the handof Solomonand giveyou tentribes
"And nowyou are saying,'Go,sayto your master,"Behold,Elijah[is here]."'
Elijahtooktwelvestonesaccording to the numberof the tribesof the sonsof Jacob,to whomthe wordof the LORDhad come,saying,"Israelshall be your name."
At the beginningof their livingthere,they did not fearthe LORD;therefore the LORDsentlionsamong them which killedsome of them.
They fearedthe LORDand servedtheir own godsaccording to the customof the nationsfrom among whomthey had been carriedawayinto exile.
However, they did not listen,but they didaccording to their earliercustom.
He has putforthhis handsagainst those whowere at peacewith him; He has violatedhis covenant.
He who walksin his uprightnessfearsthe LORD,But he who is deviousin his waysdespisesHim.
"Hearthis,O houseof Jacob,who are namedIsraelAnd who cameforthfrom the loinsof Judah,Who swearby the nameof the LORDAnd invokethe Godof Israel,[But] not in truthnorin righteousness.
