"And they will say,'Becausethey forsookthe LORD,the Godof their fatherswhobroughtthem from the landof Egypt,and they adoptedothergodsand worshipedthem and servedthem; thereforeHe has broughtallthisadversityon them.'"
Therefore He broughtup againstthem the kingof the Chaldeanswho slewtheir youngmenwith the swordin the houseof their sanctuary,and hadnocompassionon youngmanor virgin,oldmanor infirm;He gave[them] allinto his hand.
"I will pronounceMy judgmentson them concerningalltheir wickedness,wherebythey have forsakenMe and have offeredsacrificesto othergods,and worshipedthe worksof their own hands.
"Then you are to sayto them, '[It is] becauseyour forefathershave forsakenMe,' declaresthe LORD,'and have followedothergodsand servedthem and boweddownto them; but Me they have forsakenand have not keptMy law.
"But ifyou will not obeythesewords,I swearby Myself," declaresthe LORD,"that thishousewill becomea desolation."'"
"Then they will comfortyou whenyou seetheir conductand actions,for you will knowthat I have not donein vainwhateverI didto it," declaresthe LordGOD.
"Thus He has confirmedHis wordswhichHe had spokenagainstus and againstour rulerswhoruledus, to bringon us greatcalamity;for underthe wholeheaventhere has not been done[anything] like whatwas doneto Jerusalem.
