They slaughteredthe Passover[animals], and while the priestssprinkledthe blood[received] from their hand,the Levitesskinned[them].
But the priestswere too few,so that they were unableto skinallthe burntofferings;therefore their brothersthe Leviteshelpedthem untilthe workwas completedand untilthe [other] priestshad consecratedthemselves. For the Leviteswere moreconscientiousto consecratethemselves thanthe priests.
They stoodat their stationsafter their custom,according to the lawof Mosesthe manof God;the priestssprinkledthe blood[which they received] from the handof the Levites.
Then Josiahcelebratedthe Passoverto the LORDin Jerusalem,and they slaughteredthe Passover[animals] on the fourteenth[day] of the firstmonth.
Then they removedthe burntofferingsthat [they] might givethem to the sectionsof the fathers'householdsof the laypeopleto presentto the LORD,as it is writtenin the bookof Moses.[They did] thisalso with the bulls.
"Now slaughterthe Passover[animals], sanctifyyourselves and preparefor your brethrento doaccording to the wordof the LORDby Moses."
For the priestsand the Leviteshad purifiedthemselves together;allof them were pure.Then they slaughteredthe Passover[lamb] for allthe exiles,both for their brothersthe priestsand for themselves.
"And they shall thus attendto your obligationand the obligationof allthe tent,but they shall not comenearto the furnishingsof the sanctuaryand the altar,orboththey and you will die.
"But you and your sonswith you shall attendto your priesthoodfor everythingconcerningthe altarand insidethe veil,and you are to performservice.I am givingyou the priesthoodas a bestowedservice,but the outsiderwho comesnearshall be putto death."
