But when he becamestrong,his heartwas so proudthat he actedcorruptly,and he was unfaithfulto the LORDhis God,for he enteredthe templeof the LORDto burnincenseon the altarof incense.
Then he wentup to the altarwhichhe had madein Bethelon the fifteenthdayin the eighthmonth,even in the monthwhichhe had devisedin his own heart;and he instituteda feastfor the sonsof Israeland wentup to the altarto burnincense.
Now behold,there camea manof Godfrom Judahto Bethelby the wordof the LORD,while Jeroboamwas standingby the altarto burnincense.
"You have indeeddefeatedEdom,and your hearthas becomeproud.Enjoyyour gloryand stayat home;for whyshould you provoketroubleso that you, even you, would fall,and Judahwith you?"
The LORDstruckthe king,so that he was a leperto the dayof his death.And he livedin a separatehouse,while Jothamthe king'ssonwas overthe household,judgingthe peopleof the land.
When the kingdomof Rehoboamwas establishedand strong,he and allIsraelwith him forsookthe lawof the LORD.
"You said,'Behold,you have defeatedEdom.'And your hearthas becomeproudin boasting.Nowstayat home;for whyshould you provoketroubleso that you, even you, would falland Judahwith you?"
In Jerusalemhe madeengines[of war] inventedby skillfulmen to be on the towersand on the cornersfor the purpose of shootingarrowsand greatstones.Hence his famespreadafar,for he was marvelouslyhelpeduntilhe [was] strong.
He didrightin the sightof the LORD,according to allthat his fatherUzziahhad done;howeverhe did not enterthe templeof the LORD.But the peoplecontinuedactingcorruptly.
But Hezekiahgavenoreturnfor the benefithe received,becausehis heartwas proud;therefore wrathcameon him and on Judahand Jerusalem.
Pride[goes] beforedestruction,And a haughtyspiritbeforestumbling.
"When the multitudeis carriedaway, his heartwill be liftedup, and he will cause tensof thousandsto fall;yet he will not prevail.
Then the malegoatmagnified[himself] exceedingly.But as soon as he was mighty,the largehornwas broken;and in its placethere cameup fourconspicuous[horns] toward the fourwindsof heaven.
"Behold,as for the proudone, His soulis not rightwithin him; But the righteouswill liveby his faith.
Now Korahthe sonof Izhar,the sonof Kohath,the sonof Levi,with Dathanand Abiram,the sonsof Eliab,and Onthe sonof Peleth,sonsof Reuben,took[action],
So they eachtookhis [own] censerand putfireon it, and laidincenseon it; and they stoodat the doorwayof the tentof meeting,with Mosesand Aaron.
Firealso cameforthfrom the LORDand consumedthe two hundredand fiftymenwho were offeringthe incense.
and putfirein them, and layincenseupon them in the presenceof the LORDtomorrow;and the manwhomthe LORDchooses[shall be] the onewhois holy.You have gone farenough,you sonsof Levi!"
"It will comeabout that the rodof the manwhomI choosewill sprout.Thus I will lessenfrom upon Myself the grumblingsof the sonsof Israel,whoare grumblingagainstyou."
then your heartwill becomeproudand you will forgetthe LORDyour Godwho broughtyou out from the landof Egypt,out of the houseof slavery.
"Otherwise, you may sayin your heart,'My powerand the strengthof my handmademe thiswealth.'
Let no onekeep defrauding you of your prizeby delightingin self-abasementand the worshipof the angels,taking his standon [visions] he has seen,inflatedwithout causeby his fleshlymind,
