Davidsaidto him, "To whomdo you belong? And whereare you from?" And he said,"I am a youngmanof Egypt,a servantof an Amalekite;and my masterleftme behindwhenI fellsickthreedaysago.
Davidsaidto the youngmanwho toldhim, "Whereare you from?" And he answered,"I am the sonof an alien,an Amalekite."
Then Davidsaidto him, "From wheredo you come?"And he saidto him, "I have escapedfrom the campof Israel."
"He saidto me, 'Whoare you?' And I answeredhim, 'I am an Amalekite.'
A righteousmanhasregardfor the lifeof his animal,But [even] the compassionof the wickedis cruel.
Then they saidto him, "Tellus, now!On whoseaccount [has] thiscalamity[struck] us? Whatis your occupation?And wheredo you comefrom? Whatis your country?From whatpeopleare you?"
For judgment[will be] mercilessto one who has shownnomercy;mercytriumphs overjudgment.
They gavehim a pieceof figcakeand twoclustersof raisins,and he ate;then his spiritrevived.For he had not eatenbreador drunkwaterfor threedaysand threenights.
"We madea raidon the Negevof the Cherethites,and on that whichbelongs to Judah,and on the Negevof Caleb,and we burnedZiklagwith fire."
