So Jacobservedsevenyearsfor Racheland they seemedto him but a fewdaysbecause of his lovefor her.
"Askme ever somuchbridalpaymentand gift,and I will giveaccording as you sayto me; but giveme the girlin marriage."
I am smalland despised,[Yet] I do not forgetYour precepts.
The pooris hatedevenby his neighbor,But those who lovethe richare many.
A manwho flattershis neighborIs spreadinga netfor his steps.
Seehow greata lovethe Fatherhas bestowedon us, that we would be calledchildrenof God;and [such] we are. For thisreasonthe worlddoes not knowus, becauseit did not knowHim.
But Davidsaidto Saul,"Whoam I, and whatis my life[or] my father'sfamilyin Israel,that I should be the king'sson-in-law?"
Then Saulcommandedhis servants,"Speakto Davidsecretly,saying,'Behold,the kingdelightsin you, and allhis servantsloveyou; nowtherefore, becomethe king'sson-in-law.'"
The servantsof Saulreportedto him according to thesewords[which] Davidspoke.
Saulreplied,"Am I not a Benjamite,of the smallestof the tribesof Israel,and my familythe leastof allthe familiesof the tribeof Benjamin?Whythen do you speakto me in thisway?"
