Then Davidsaidto the Philistine,"You cometo me with a sword,a spear,and a javelin,but I cometo you in the nameof the LORDof hosts,the Godof the armiesof Israel,whomyou have taunted.
So Asawentout to meethim, and they drewup in battleformationin the valleyof Zephathahat Mareshah.
"With him is [only] an armof flesh,but with us is the LORDour Godto helpus and to fightour battles."And the peoplereliedon the wordsof Hezekiahkingof Judah.
Our helpis in the nameof the LORD,Who madeheavenand earth.
The LORDis my rockand my fortressand my deliverer,My God,my rock,in whom I takerefuge;My shieldand the hornof my salvation,my stronghold.
They have boweddownand fallen,But we have risenand stoodupright.
Salvationbelongs to the LORD;Your blessing[be] upon Your people!Selah.
For I will not trustin my bow,Norwill my swordsaveme.
The nameof the LORDis a strongtower;The righteousrunsinto it and is safe.
"Whomhave you reproachedand blasphemed?And againstwhomhave you raised[your] voiceAnd haughtilyliftedup your eyes?Againstthe HolyOneof Israel!
"But I knowyour sittingdownAnd your goingout and your comingin And your ragingagainstMe.
for the weaponsof our warfareare not of the flesh,but divinelypowerfulfor the destructionof fortresses.
Not that we are adequatein ourselvesto consideranythingas [coming] from ourselves,but our adequacyis from God,
I can doall thingsthroughHim who strengthensme.
Again the Philistinesaid,"I defythe ranksof Israelthisday;giveme a manthat we may fighttogether."
Then Davidspoketo the menwho were standingby him, saying,"Whatwill be donefor the manwhokillsthisPhilistineand takesawaythe reproachfrom Israel?For whois thisuncircumcisedPhilistine,that he should tauntthe armiesof the livingGod?"
"Your servanthas killedboththe lionand the bear;and thisuncircumcisedPhilistinewill be like oneof them, sincehe has tauntedthe armiesof the livingGod."
[He] also [had] bronzegreaveson his legsand a bronzejavelin[slung] betweenhis shoulders.
