The LORDgaveIsraela deliverer,so that they escapedfrom underthe handof the Arameans;and the sonsof Israellivedin their tentsas formerly.
The sonof Ulam[was] Bedan.These[were] the sonsof Gileadthe sonof Machir,the sonof Manasseh.
Now she sentand summonedBarakthe sonof Abinoamfrom Kedesh-naphtali,and saidto him, "Behold,the LORD,the Godof Israel,has commanded,'Goand marchto MountTabor,and takewith you tenthousandmenfrom the sonsof Naphtaliand from the sonsof Zebulun.
The LORDlookedat him and said,"Goin thisyour strengthand deliverIsraelfrom the handof Midian.Have I not sentyou?"
But Joashsaidto allwhostoodagainsthim, "Will you contendfor Baal,orwill you deliverhim? Whoeverwill pleadfor him shall be putto deathby morning.Ifhe is a god,let him contendfor himself, becausesomeone has torndownhis altar."
Therefore on that dayhe namedhim Jerubbaal,that is to say,"Let Baalcontendagainst him," becausehe had torndownhis altar.
Then Jerubbaal(that is, Gideon)and allthe peoplewhowere with him, roseearlyand campedbesidethe springof Harod;and the campof Midianwas on the northsideof them by the hillof Morehin the valley.
Then Jerubbaalthe sonof Joashwentand livedin his own house.
nordid they showkindnessto the householdof Jerubbaal([that is], Gideon)in accord with allthe goodthat he had doneto Israel.
AllIsraelfrom Daneven to Beershebaknewthat Samuelwas confirmedas a prophetof the LORD.
So the Philistineswere subduedand they didnot comeanymorewithin the borderof Israel.And the handof the LORDwas against the Philistinesallthe daysof Samuel.
