For they alsobuiltfor themselves highplacesand [sacred] pillarsand Asherimon everyhighhilland beneatheveryluxurianttree.
"Dothisthing:removethe kings,eachfrom his place,and putcaptainsin their place,

His servantssaidto him, "Beholdnow,we have heardthat the kingsof the houseof Israelare mercifulkings,pleaselet us putsackclothon our loinsand ropeson our heads,and goout to the kingof Israel;perhapshe will saveyour life."
Did the godsof those nationswhichmy fathersdestroyeddeliverthem, [even] Gozanand Haranand Rezephand the sonsof Edenwho[were] in Telassar?
Whoamong allthe godsof theselandshave deliveredtheir landfrom my hand,that the LORDwould deliverJerusalemfrom my hand?'"
