Then Elijahsaidto the people,"I aloneam lefta prophetof the LORD,but Baal'sprophetsare 450men.
"Now let them giveus twooxen;and let them chooseoneoxfor themselves and cutit up, and placeit on the wood,but putnofire[under it]; and I will preparethe otheroxand layit on the wood,and I will not puta fire[under it].
He said,"I have beenveryzealousfor the LORD,the Godof hosts;for the sonsof Israelhave forsakenYour covenant,torndownYour altarsand killedYour prophetswith the sword.And I aloneam left;and they seekmy life,to takeit away."

Now behold,a prophetapproachedAhabkingof Israeland said,"Thussaysthe LORD,'Have you seenallthisgreatmultitude?Behold,I will deliverthem into your handtoday,and you shall knowthat I am the LORD.'"
So they girdedsackclothon their loinsand [put] ropeson their heads,and cameto the kingof Israeland said,"Your servantBen-hadadsays,'Pleaselet me live.'"And he said,"Is he stillalive?He is my brother."
Now a certainmanof the sonsof the prophetssaidto anotherby the wordof the LORD,"Pleasestrikeme." But the manrefusedto strikehim.
So the prophetdepartedand waitedfor the kingby the way,and disguisedhimself with a bandageoverhis eyes.
"Lord,THEY HAVE KILLEDYOUR PROPHETS,THEY HAVE TORN DOWNYOUR ALTARS,AND I ALONEAM LEFT,AND THEY ARE SEEKINGMY LIFE."
