It cameabout when allIsraelheardthat Jeroboamhad returned,that they sentand calledhim to the assemblyand madehim kingoverallIsrael.Nonebut the tribeof Judahfollowedthe houseof David.
So allthe menof Israelwithdrewfrom followingDavid[and] followedShebathe sonof Bichri;but the menof Judahremainedsteadfastto their king,from the Jordaneven to Jerusalem.
"However,I will not tearawayallthe kingdom,[but] I will giveonetribeto your sonfor the sakeof My servantDavidand for the sakeof JerusalemwhichI have chosen."
Then Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat,an Ephraimiteof Zeredah,Solomon'sservant,whose mother'snamewas Zeruah,a widow,also rebelledagainst the king.
(but he will haveonetribe,for the sakeof My servantDavidand for the sakeof Jerusalem,the citywhichI have chosenfrom allthe tribesof Israel),
but I will takethe kingdomfrom his son'shandand giveit to you, [even] tentribes.
But to his sonI will giveonetribe,that My servantDavidmay havea lampalwaysbeforeMe in Jerusalem,the citywhereI have chosenfor Myself to putMy name.
I will takeyou, and you shall reignover whateveryou desire,and you shall be kingoverIsrael.
But as for the sonsof Israelwho livedin the citiesof Judah,Rehoboamreignedoverthem.
WhenHe had tornIsraelfrom the houseof David,they madeJeroboamthe sonof Nebatking.Then JeroboamdroveIsraelawayfrom followingthe LORDand made them commita greatsin.
EphraimsurroundsMe with liesAnd the houseof Israelwith deceit;Judahis alsounrulyagainstGod,Even againstthe HolyOnewho is faithful.
They have setup kings,but not by Me; They have appointedprinces,but I did not know[it]. With their silverand goldthey have madeidolsfor themselves, That they might be cutoff.
Samuelsaidto allthe people,"Do you seehim whomthe LORDhas chosen?Surelythereis noonelikehim among allthe people."So allthe peopleshoutedand said,"[Long] livethe king!"
