So the LORDsaidto Solomon,"Becauseyou have donethis,and you have not keptMy covenantand My statutes,whichI have commandedyou, I will surelytearthe kingdomfrom you, and will giveit to your servant.
"NeverthelessI will not doit in your daysfor the sakeof your fatherDavid,[but] I will tearit out of the handof your son.
Then Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat,an Ephraimiteof Zeredah,Solomon'sservant,whose mother'snamewas Zeruah,a widow,also rebelledagainst the king.
It cameabout at that time,when Jeroboamwentout of Jerusalem,that the prophetAhijahthe Shilonitefoundhim on the road.Now Ahijah had clothedhimself with a newcloak;and bothof them were alonein the field.
He saidto Jeroboam,"Takefor yourself tenpieces;for thussaysthe LORD,the Godof Israel,'Behold,I will tearthe kingdomout of the handof Solomonand giveyou tentribes
It cameabout when allIsraelheardthat Jeroboamhad returned,that they sentand calledhim to the assemblyand madehim kingoverallIsrael.Nonebut the tribeof Judahfollowedthe houseof David.
They rejectedHis statutesand His covenantwhichHe madewith their fathersand His warningswith whichHe warnedthem. And they followedvanityand becamevain,and [went] afterthe nationswhichsurroundedthem, concerning whichthe LORDhad commandedthem not to dolike them.
WhenHe had tornIsraelfrom the houseof David,they madeJeroboamthe sonof Nebatking.Then JeroboamdroveIsraelawayfrom followingthe LORDand made them commita greatsin.
They did not keepthe covenantof GodAnd refusedto walkin His law;
shall by nomeansseethe landwhichI sworeto their fathers,norshall anyof those who spurnedMe seeit.
I, the LORD,have spoken,surelythisI will doto allthisevilcongregationwho are gatheredtogether againstMe. In thiswildernessthey shall be destroyed,and therethey will die.'"
