Sowith manyotherexhortationshe preached the gospelto the people.
Afterthe readingof the Lawand the Prophetsthe synagogue officialssentto them, saying,"Brethren,ifyou have anywordof exhortationfor the people,sayit."
strengtheningthe soulsof the disciples,encouragingthem to continuein the faith,and [saying], "Throughmanytribulationswe mustenterthe kingdomof God."
Judasand Silas,alsobeingprophetsthemselves,encouragedand strengthenedthe brethrenwith a lengthymessage.
Now Joseph,a Leviteof Cyprianbirth,who was also calledBarnabasby the apostles(whichtranslatedmeansSonof Encouragement),
Sothe churchthroughoutallJudeaand Galileeand Samariaenjoyedpeace,being builtup; and goingon in the fearof the Lordand in the comfortof the HolySpirit,it continued to increase.
orhe who exhorts,in his exhortation;he who gives,with liberality;he who leads,with diligence;he who shows mercy,with cheerfulness.
So thenwe pursuethe things which make for peaceand the buildingup of one another.
Eachof us is to pleasehis neighborfor his good,to his edification.
Allthingsare lawful,but not allthingsare profitable.All thingsare lawful,but not all thingsedify.
Soalsoyou, sinceyou are zealousof spiritual[gifts], seekto aboundfor the edificationof the church.
For you are giving thankswell enough,but the other personis not edified.
Whatis [the outcome] then,brethren?Whenyou assemble,each onehasa psalm,hasa teaching,hasa revelation,hasa tongue,hasan interpretation.Let all thingsbe donefor edification.
For you canallprophesyoneby one,sothat allmay learnand allmay be exhorted;
Nowconcerningthings sacrificed to idols,we knowthat we allhaveknowledge.Knowledgemakes arrogant,but loveedifies.
who comfortsus in allour afflictionsothat we will be ableto comfortthosewho are in anyafflictionwith the comfortwith whichwe ourselvesare comfortedby God.
sothat on the contraryyou should ratherforgiveand comfort[him], otherwisesuch a onemight be overwhelmedby excessivesorrow.
Let nounwholesomewordproceedfrom your mouth,but onlysuch[a word] as is goodfor edificationaccording to the need[of the moment], sothat it will givegraceto thosewho hear.
I have senthim to you for thisverypurpose, sothat you may knowaboutus, and that he may comfortyour hearts.
[For] I have senthim to you for thisverypurpose, that you may knowaboutour circumstancesand that he may encourageyour hearts;
justas you knowhowwe [were] exhortingand encouragingand imploringeachoneof you as a father[would] his ownchildren,
For our exhortationdoes not [come] from errororimpurityorby wayof deceit;
and we sentTimothy,our brotherand God'sfellow workerin the gospelof Christ,to strengthenand encourageyou as to your faith,
Finallythen,brethren,we requestand exhortyou in the LordJesus,that as you receivedfrom us [instruction] as to howyou oughtto walkand pleaseGod(justas you actuallydo walk),that you excelstill more.
Thereforecomfortone anotherwith thesewords.
Nowsuch personswe commandand exhortin the LordJesusChristto workin quiet fashionand eattheir ownbread.
norto pay attentionto mythsand endlessgenealogies,whichgive riseto mere speculationratherthan[furthering] the administrationof Godwhich is by faith.
UntilI come,give attentionto the [public] reading[of Scripture], to exhortationand teaching.
Thosewho havebelieversas their mastersmust not be disrespectfulto them becausethey are brethren,but must servethem all the more,becausethosewho partakeof the benefitare believersand beloved.Teachand preachthese[principles].
preachthe word;be readyin season[and] out of season;reprove,rebuke,exhort,with greatpatienceand instruction.
holding fastthe faithfulwordwhich is in accordancewith the teaching,sothat he will be ablebothto exhortin sounddoctrineand to refutethosewho contradict.
These thingsspeakand exhortand reprovewith allauthority.Let no onedisregardyou.
Likewiseurgethe young mento be sensible;
[Urge] bondslavesto be subjectto their ownmastersin everything,to be well-pleasing,not argumentative,
not forsakingour ownassembling together,as is the habitof some,but encouraging[one another]; and allthe moreas you seethe daydrawing near.
But I urgeyou, brethren,bearwith thiswordof exhortation,for I have writtento you briefly.
But encourageone anotherdayafterday,as longas it is [still] called"Today,"sothat noneof you will be hardenedby the deceitfulnessof sin.
ThroughSilvanus,our faithfulbrother(for soI regard[him]), I have writtento you briefly,exhortingand testifyingthat thisis the true graceof God.Stand firmin it!
