So the LevitesappointedHemanthe sonof Joel,and from his relatives,Asaphthe sonof Berechiah;and from the sonsof Meraritheir relatives,Ethanthe sonof Kushaiah,
Asaphthe chief,and secondto him Zechariah,[then] Jeiel,Shemiramoth,Jehiel,Mattithiah,Eliab,Benaiah,Obed-edomand Jeiel,with musical instruments,harps,lyres;also Asaph[played] loud-soundingcymbals,
Moreover, Davidand the commandersof the armysetapartfor the service[some] of the sonsof Asaphand of Hemanand of Jeduthun,who [were] to prophesywith lyres,harpsand cymbals;and the numberof thosewho performedtheir servicewas:
Of Jeduthun,the sonsof Jeduthun:Gedaliah,Zeri,Jeshaiah,Shimei, Hashabiahand Mattithiah,six,underthe directionof their fatherJeduthunwith the harp,who prophesiedin givingthanksand praisingthe LORD.
Allthesewere underthe directionof their fatherto singin the houseof the LORD,with cymbals,harpsand lyres,for the serviceof the houseof God.Asaph,Jeduthunand Heman[were] underthe directionof the king.
They castlotsfor their duties,allalike,the smallas well as the great,the teacher[as well] as the pupil.
[Heman's] brotherAsaphstoodat his righthand,even Asaphthe sonof Berechiah,the sonof Shimea,
Now when the buildershad laidthe foundationof the templeof the LORD,the priestsstoodin their apparelwith trumpets,and the Levites,the sonsof Asaph,with cymbals,to praisethe LORDaccordingto the directionsof KingDavidof Israel.
SurelyGodis goodto Israel,To those whoare purein heart!
O God,whyhave You rejected[us] forever?Why does Your angersmokeagainst the sheepof Your pasture?
We givethanksto You, O God,we givethanks,For Your nameis near;Men declareYour wondrousworks.
Godis knownin Judah;His nameis greatin Israel.
My voice[rises] to God,and I will cryaloud;My voice[rises] to God,and He will hearme.
Listen,O my people,to my instruction;Inclineyour earsto the wordsof my mouth.
O God,the nationshave invadedYour inheritance;They have defiledYour holytemple;They have laidJerusalemin ruins.
Oh, giveear,Shepherdof Israel,You who leadJosephlike a flock;You who are enthroned[above] the cherubim,shineforth!
Singfor joyto Godour strength;Shoutjoyfullyto the Godof Jacob.
GodtakesHis standin His own congregation;He judgesin the midstof the rulers.

Whena manlaysholdof his brotherin his father'shouse,[saying], "You have a cloak,you shall be our ruler,And theseruinswill be underyour charge,"
