Nevertheless, the king'swordprevailedagainstJoab.Therefore, Joabdepartedand wentthroughout allIsrael,and cameto Jerusalem.
Joabsaid,"May the LORDaddto His peoplea hundredtimesas many as they are! But, my lordthe king,are they not allmy lord'sservants?Whydoes my lordseekthisthing?Whyshould he be a causeof guiltto Israel?"
Joabgavethe numberof the censusof [all] the peopleto David.And allIsraelwere 1,100,000menwho drewthe sword;and Judah[was] 470,000menwho drewthe sword.
But the midwivesfearedGod,and did not doas the kingof Egypthad commandedthem, but let the boyslive.
Sincethe wordof the kingis authoritative,whowill sayto him, "Whatare you doing?"
"But [even] if[He does] not, let it be knownto you, O king,that we are not going to serveyour godsor worshipthe goldenimagethat you have setup."
