and Jessebecamethe fatherof Eliabhis firstborn,then Abinadabthe second,Shimeathe third,
Againthere was warat Gath,where there was a manof [great] staturewho had twenty-fourfingersand toes,six[fingers on each hand] and six[toes on each foot]; and he alsowas descendedfrom the giants.
Thesewere descendedfrom the giantsin Gath,and they fellby the handof Davidand by the handof his servants.
Also Jonathan,David'suncle,[was] a counselor,a manof understanding,and a scribe;and Jehielthe sonof Hachmonitutoredthe king'ssons.
"Whomhave you reproachedand blasphemed?And againstwhomhave you raised[your] voiceAnd haughtilyliftedup your eyes?Againstthe HolyOneof Israel!
Next Jessemade Shammahpassby. And he said,"The LORDhas not chosenthisoneeither."
Again the Philistinesaid,"I defythe ranksof Israelthisday;giveme a manthat we may fighttogether."
Then Davidspoketo the menwho were standingby him, saying,"Whatwill be donefor the manwhokillsthisPhilistineand takesawaythe reproachfrom Israel?For whois thisuncircumcisedPhilistine,that he should tauntthe armiesof the livingGod?"
"Your servanthas killedboththe lionand the bear;and thisuncircumcisedPhilistinewill be like oneof them, sincehe has tauntedthe armiesof the livingGod."
