When Jacob knew he did not have long to live, he called in Joseph and said, “If you really love me, you must make a solemn promise not to bury me in Egypt.

Instead, bury me in the place where my ancestors are buried.” “I will do what you have asked,” Joseph answered.

All of that happened because the people of Israel had not obeyed the LORD their God. They rejected the solemn agreement he had made with them, and they ignored everything that the LORD's servant Moses had told them.

About this time, Hezekiah got sick and was almost dead. Isaiah the prophet went in and told him, “The LORD says you won't ever get well. You are going to die, so you had better start doing what needs to be done.”

Jehoram even built local shrines in the hills of Judah and let the people sin against the LORD by worshipping foreign gods.

Indeed, the wicked will die and go to their graves in the prime of life.

By doing such gruesome things, they also became filthy.

The LORD said, “Hosea, Israel has betrayed me like an unfaithful wife. Marry such a woman and have children by her.”

Israel, you break treaties and don't keep promises; you turn justice into poisonous weeds where healthy plants should grow.

After you have seen it, you will die, just like your brother Aaron,

So I am giving you fair warning today, and I call the earth and the sky as witnesses. If you ever make idols, the LORD will be angry, and you won't have long to live, because the LORD will let you be wiped out.

because his judgments are honest and fair. That filthy prostitute ruined the earth with shameful deeds. But God has judged her and made her pay the price for murdering his servants.”

But I'm not going to rescue you any more! You've left me and gone off to worship other gods. If you're in such big trouble, go and cry to them for help!

Before long, the Israelites began disobeying the LORD by worshipping Baal, Astarte, and gods from Syria, Sidon, Moab, Ammon, and Philistia.

The LORD had brought their ancestors out of Egypt, and they had worshipped him. But now the Israelites stopped worshipping the LORD and worshipped the idols of Baal and Astarte, as well as the idols of other gods from nearby nations. The LORD was so angry
