and I will be so furious that I will abandon them and ignore their prayers. I will send disasters and suffering that will nearly wipe them out. Finally, they will realize that the disasters happened because I abandoned them.

The LORD our God was with our ancestors to help them, and I pray that he will be with us and never abandon us.

“The LORD must be furious with me and everyone else in Judah, because our ancestors did not obey the laws written in this book. Go and find out what the LORD wants us to do.”

Solomon, my son, worship God and obey him with all your heart and mind, just as I have done. He knows all your thoughts and your reasons for doing things, and so if you turn to him, he will hear your prayers. But if you ignore him, he will reject you for ever.

At once, Azariah went to Asa and said: Listen to me, King Asa and you people of Judah and Benjamin. The LORD will be with you and help you, as long as you obey and worship him. But if you disobey him, he will desert you.

but Judah was never able to regain control of Edom. Even the town of Libnah rebelled at that time. Those things happened because Jehoram had turned away from the LORD, the God his ancestors had worshipped.

God's Spirit spoke to Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest, and Zechariah told everyone that God was saying: “Why are you disobeying me and my laws? This will only bring punishment! You have deserted me, so now I will desert you.”

Our God, you are powerful, fearsome, and faithful, always true to your word. So please keep in mind the terrible sufferings of our people, kings, leaders, priests, and prophets, from the time Assyria ruled until this very day.

Why have you turned your back and count me your enemy?

God always treats everyone the way they deserve,

But when you turn away, they are terrified; when you end their life, they die and rot.

Show respect to his son because if you don't, the LORD might become furious and suddenly destroy you. But he blesses and protects everyone who runs to him.

so don't hide from me. I am your servant, and you have helped me. Don't turn from me in anger. You alone keep me safe. Don't reject or desert me.

You, LORD, were my friend, and you made me strong as a mighty mountain. But when you hid your face, I was crushed.

You made us retreat, and our enemies have taken everything we own.

How much longer, LORD? Will you hide for ever? How long will your anger keep burning like fire?

No one knows the full power of your furious anger, but it is as great as the fear that we owe to you.

Our LORD, you have deserted your people, Israel, because they follow customs of nations from the east. They worship Philistine gods and are close friends of foreigners.

You are the LORD's people, but you made him terribly angry, and he struck you with his mighty arm. Mountains shook, and dead bodies covered the streets like rubbish. The LORD is still angry, and he is ready to strike you again.

Why did you make us turn away from you, our LORD? Why did you make us want to disobey you? Please change your mind! We are your servants, your very own people.

No one worships in your name or remains faithful. You have turned your back on us and let our sins melt us away.

Meanwhile, I patiently trust the LORD, even though he is no longer pleased with Israel.

Jeremiah, when a prophet or a priest or anyone else comes to you and asks, “Does the LORD have news for us?” tell them, “You people are a nuisance to the LORD, and he will get rid of you.”

I will pick you up and throw you far away. And I will abandon this city of Jerusalem that I gave to your ancestors.

The LORD is furious, and if the people hear how he is going to punish them, perhaps they will ask to be forgiven.

Nebuzaradan said: Jeremiah, the LORD your God warned your people that he would bring disaster on this land.

In a foreign land my people are crying. Listen! You'll hear them say, “Has the LORD deserted Zion? Is he no longer its king?” I hear the LORD reply, “Why did you make me angry by worshipping useless idols?”

Never again will I turn my back on the people of Israel, and my Spirit will live in them. I, the LORD, have spoken.

Israel, you break treaties and don't keep promises; you turn justice into poisonous weeds where healthy plants should grow.

Even if you do have children, I will take them all and leave you to mourn. I will turn away, and you will sink down in deep trouble.

Some day you will beg the LORD to help you, but he will turn away because of your sins.

so don't even try it. The LORD refuses to help you, because you turned your backs on him. The Amalekites and the Canaanites are your enemies, and they will attack and defeat you.”

The LORD will be furious, and instead of forgiving you, he will separate you from the other tribes. Then he will destroy you, by piling on you all the curses in The Book of God's Law, and you will be forgotten for ever.

Now I call the sky and the earth to be witnesses that I am offering you this choice. Will you choose for the LORD to make you prosperous and give you a long life? Or will he put you under a curse and kill you? Choose life!

They will pray to me, but I will ignore them because they were evil and started worshipping other gods.

So don't be frightened when you meet them in battle. The LORD your God is great and fearsome, and he will fight at your side.

Before long, the Israelites began disobeying the LORD by worshipping Baal, Astarte, and gods from Syria, Sidon, Moab, Ammon, and Philistia.

Gideon answered, “Please don't take this wrong, but if the LORD is helping us, then why have all these awful things happened? We've heard how the LORD performed miracles and rescued our ancestors from Egypt. But those things happened long ago. Now the LORD has abandoned us to the Midianites.”
