And the son of Karmi was Aḵar, the troubler of Yisra’ĕl, who trespassed in that which was under the ban.

He who is greedy for gain, troubles his own house, But he who hates bribes lives.

“Say to the children of Yisra’ĕl, ‘Any man of the children of Yisra’ĕl, or of the strangers who sojourn in Yisra’ĕl, who gives any of his offspring to Moleḵ, shall certainly be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones.


‘And when the daughter of any priest profanes herself by whoring, she profanes her father. She is burned with fire.


“Bring the one who has cursed outside the camp, and all those who heard him shall lay their hands on his head, and all the congregation shall stone him.


O that those who disturb you would even cut themselves off!


and you shall stone him with stones until he dies, because he sought to entice you away from יהוה your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, from the house of bondage.


“And let all Yisra’ĕl hear and fear, and not again do any such evil matter as this in your midst.


then you shall bring out to your gates that man or woman who has done this evil matter, and you shall stone to death that man or woman with stones.


“Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones. Thus you shall purge the evil from your midst. And let all Yisra’ĕl hear, and fear.


since Elohim shall rightly repay with affliction those who afflict you,


See to it that no one falls short of the favour of Elohim, that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, by which many become defiled,


“And you, by all means guard yourselves from that which is under the ban, lest you come under the ban when you take of that which is under the ban, and make the camp of Yisra’ĕl a curse, and shall trouble it.


And it shall be that he who is taken with that which is under the ban is burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of יהוה, and because he has committed wickedness in Yisra’ĕl.’ ”


And Yonathan said, “My father has troubled the land. Now see how my eyes lit up when I tasted a little of this honey.
