And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.


And the sons of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites after their fathers' houses.


Go ye, inquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do according unto all that is written in this book.


because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and hast humbled thyself before me, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.


Therefore am I troubled at his presence; When I consider, I am afraid of him.


For calamity from God was a terror to me, And by reason of his excellency I could do nothing


Hot indignation hath taken hold upon me, Because of the wicked that forsake thy law.


Thy fierce wrath is gone over me; Thy terrors have cut me off.


For all these things hath mine hand made, and so all these things came to be, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and that trembleth at my word.


Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word: Your brethren that hate you, that cast you out for my name's sake, have said, Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy; but they shall be ashamed.


I heard, and my belly trembled, My lips quivered at the voice; Rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in my place: That I should rest in the day of trouble, When it cometh up against the people which invadeth him in troops.


So then, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;


and so fearful was the appearance, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:


And the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to stand before the LORD, this holy God? and to whom shall he go up from us?
