David said to Solomon, “My son, I had it in my heart to build a house to the name of the Lord my God.


In the thought of one who is at ease there is contempt for misfortune; it is ready for those whose feet slip.


As for me, is my complaint against man? Why should I not be impatient?


For thou hast delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling;


As for me, I shall behold thy face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with beholding thy form.


My steps have held fast to thy paths, my feet have not slipped.


But I, when they were sick— I wore sackcloth, I afflicted myself with fasting. I prayed with head bowed on my bosom,


For I pray, “Only let them not rejoice over me, who boast against me when my foot slips!”


But I through the abundance of thy steadfast love will enter thy house, I will worship toward thy holy temple in the fear of thee.


When I thought, “My foot slips,” thy steadfast love, O Lord, held me up.


I was at the point of utter ruin in the assembled congregation.”


And if you be unwilling to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”


Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you; and I will instruct you in the good and the right way.
