Why does the wicked renounce God, and say in his heart, “Thou wilt not call to account”?


His speech was smoother than butter, yet war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.


I lie in the midst of lions that greedily devour the sons of men; their teeth are spears and arrows, their tongues sharp swords.


And they say, “How can God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?”


They pour out their arrogant words, they boast, all the evildoers.


There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.


The tongue of the wise dispenses knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly.


The mind of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.


“Have you not observed what these people are saying, ‘The Lord has rejected the two families which he chose’? Thus they have despised my people so that they are no longer a nation in their sight.


The lips and thoughts of my assailants are against me all the day long.


You brood of vipers! how can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
