The wicked have laid a snare for me, but I do not stray from thy precepts.
The godless besmear me with lies, but with my whole heart I keep thy precepts;
Godless men have dug pitfalls for me, men who do not conform to thy law.
When my spirit is faint, thou knowest my way! In the path where I walk they have hidden a trap for me.
For without cause they hid their net for me; without cause they dug a pit for my life.
Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.
Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause against an ungodly people; from deceitful and unjust men deliver me!
They set a net for my steps; my soul was bowed down. They dug a pit in my way, but they have fallen into it themselves. Selah

Then they said, “Come, let us make plots against Jeremiah, for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not heed any of his words.”
Is evil a recompense for good? Yet they have dug a pit for my life. Remember how I stood before thee to speak good for them, to turn away thy wrath from them.
May a cry be heard from their houses, when thou bringest the marauder suddenly upon them! For they have dug a pit to take me, and laid snares for my feet.
