And while Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city Giloh. And the conspiracy grew strong, and the people with Absalom kept increasing.


And again, whom should I serve? Should it not be his son? As I have served your father, so I will serve you.”


Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Go in to your father's concubines, whom he has left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that you have made yourself odious to your father, and the hands of all who are with you will be strengthened.”


The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and his anointed, saying,


Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war befall us, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.”


No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel, can avail against the Lord.


Woe to those who hide deep from the Lord their counsel, whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, “Who sees us? Who knows us?”


Take counsel together, but it will come to naught; speak a word, but it will not stand, for God is with us.


When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death;
