He appointed judges in the land in all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city,
The cities shall be for you a refuge from the avenger, so that the slayer may not die until there is a trial before the congregation.
“Again, you have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but carry out the vows you have made to the Lord.’
“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
“You shall appoint judges and officials throughout your tribes, in all your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, and they shall render just decisions for the people.
All who hate a brother or sister are murderers, and you know that murderers do not have eternal life abiding in them.
