One basket had very good figs, like first-ripe figs, but the other basket had very bad figs, so bad that they could not be eaten.


“I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.


“Who, then, is the faithful and wise slave whom his master has put in charge of his household, to give the other slaves their allowance of food at the proper time?


When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them,


but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps.


But the wise replied, ‘No! there will not be enough for you and for us; you had better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’


They went out from us, but they did not belong to us, for if they had belonged to us they would have remained with us. But by going out they made it plain that none of them belongs to us.


Now I desire to remind you, though you are fully informed, once and for all, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
