Then Herod secretly called for the magi and learned from them the exact time when the star had appeared.
“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you lock people out of the kingdom of heaven. For you do not go in yourselves, and when others are going in you stop them.
The Pharisees then said to one another, “You see, you can do nothing. Look, the world has gone after him!”
Or do you suppose that the scripture speaks to no purpose? Does the spirit that God caused to dwell in us desire envy?
