After these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”
Do you fix your eyes on such a one? Do you bring me into judgment with you?
But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I shall come out like gold.
You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me
But now go, lead the people to the place about which I have spoken to you; see, my angel shall go in front of you. Nevertheless, when the day for punishment comes, I will punish them for their sin.”
The dead do not live; shades do not rise because you have punished and destroyed them and wiped out all memory of them.
Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: I will now refine and test them, for what else can I do with the daughter of my people?
Many shall be purified, cleansed, and refined, but the wicked shall continue to act wickedly. None of the wicked shall understand, but those who are wise shall understand.
The Lord within it is righteous; he does no wrong. Every morning he renders his judgment, each dawn without fail, but the unjust knows no shame.
And I will put this third into the fire, refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are my people,’ and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.’ ”
He fed you in the wilderness with manna that your ancestors did not know, to humble you and to test you and in the end to do you good.
so that the genuineness of your faith—being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
