Take my instruction instead of silver and knowledge rather than choice gold,
Who among you will give heed to this; who will attend and listen for the time to come?
which the prophet Jeremiah spoke to all the people of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem:
They have turned their backs to me, not their faces; though I have taught them persistently, they would not listen and accept correction.
O Lord, do your eyes not look for truth? You have struck them, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to turn back.
Who is wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of the Lord spoken, so that they may declare it? Why is the land ruined and laid waste like a wilderness, so that no one passes through?
See that you do not refuse the one who is speaking, for if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we reject the one who warns from heaven!
