For thus says the Lord concerning the sons and daughters who are born in this place and concerning the mothers who bear them and the fathers who father them in this land:


Therefore give their children over to famine; hurl them out to the power of the sword; let their wives become childless and widowed. May their men meet death by pestilence, their youths be slain by the sword in battle.


I will prepare destroyers against you, all with their weapons; they shall cut down your choicest cedars and cast them into the fire.


Tell the nations, “Here they are!” Proclaim against Jerusalem, “Besiegers come from a distant land; they shout against the cities of Judah.


Therefore a lion from the forest shall kill them; a wolf from the desert shall destroy them. A leopard is watching against their cities; everyone who goes out of them shall be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many; their faithlessness is great.


O daughter of my people, put on sackcloth and roll in ashes; make mourning as for an only child, most bitter lamentation, for suddenly the destroyer will come upon us.


We have become orphans, fatherless; our mothers are like widows.


Its princes within it are like a roaring lion tearing the prey; they have devoured human lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows within it.


You shall stumble by day; the prophet also shall stumble with you by night, and I will destroy your mother.
