Remember, O Lord, against the Edomites the day of Jerusalem’s fall, how they said, “Tear it down! Tear it down! Down to its foundations!”


The sentinels found me, as they went about in the city. “Have you seen him whom my soul loves?”


The sentinel says: “Morning comes and also the night. If you will inquire, inquire; come back again.”


For thus the Lord said to me: “Go, post a lookout; let him announce what he sees.


Then King Zedekiah sent for him and received him. The king questioned him secretly in his house and said, “Is there any word from the Lord?” Jeremiah said, “There is!” Then he said, “You shall be handed over to the king of Babylon.”


Also I raised up sentinels for you: “Give heed to the sound of the trumpet!” But they said, “We will not give heed.”


Thus says the Lord God: Because Edom acted revengefully against the house of Judah and has grievously offended in taking vengeance upon them,


So you, mortal, I have made a sentinel for the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me.


Egypt shall become a desolation and Edom a desolate wilderness, because of the violence done to the people of Judah, in whose land they have shed innocent blood.


Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they carried into exile entire communities, to hand them over to Edom.


Edom will become a possession, Seir a possession of its enemies, while Israel does valiantly.


not to engage in battle with them, for I will not give you even so much as a foot’s length of their land, since I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession.
