For no one can anticipate one’s time. Like fish taken in a cruel net or like birds caught in a snare, so mortals are snared at a time of calamity, when it suddenly falls upon them.


And just as I have watched over them to pluck up and break down, to overthrow, destroy, and bring evil, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, says the Lord.


So the Lord kept watch over this calamity until he brought it upon us. Indeed, the Lord our God is right in all that he has done, for we have disobeyed his voice.


Does a lion roar in the forest when it has no prey? Does a young lion cry out from its den if it has caught nothing?


Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does disaster befall a city unless the Lord has done it?
