The hand of Midian prevailed over Israel, and because of Midian the Israelites provided for themselves hiding places in the mountains, caves and strongholds.


When the Israelites saw that they were in distress (for the troops were hard pressed), the people hid themselves in caves and in holes and in rocks and in tombs and in cisterns.


Some Hebrews crossed the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. Saul was still at Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.


So Saul and his three sons and his armor-bearer and all his men died together on the same day.


The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
