Shallum was Kore’s son. Kore was Ebiasaph’s son. Ebiasaph was Korah’s son. Shallum and his brothers were gatekeepers. They were from the family of Korah. They had the job of guarding the gates to the Holy Tent. {\cf2\super [90]} They did this just like their ancestors {\cf2\super [91]} had done before them. Their ancestors had the job of guarding the entrance to the Holy Tent.

The sons of Korah, {the ancestors of} the Korahites, were Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph.
So the men moved away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. Dathan and Abiram went to their tents. They stood outside of their tents with their wives, children, and little babies.
It was like the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them. All of Korah’s men, their families, and everything they owned went down into the earth.
Those people went down into their grave alive. Everything they owned went with them. Then the earth closed over them. They were finished—gone from the camp!

You saw what the Lord did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab from Reuben’s family. All the people of Israel watched as the ground opened up like a mouth and swallowed those men. It swallowed their families, their tents, and all of their servants and animals.
“Parents must not be put to death for something their children did. And children must not be put to death for something their parents did. A person should be put to death only for a bad thing that he himself did.
