And a little later, those standing nearby came to Peter and said, “[We know] for sure, you also are one of them [i.e., Jesus’ disciples], because your accent gives you away.”
Then Peter began to curse and swear, “[I tell you], I do not know the man.” And immediately a rooster crowed.
And Jesus said, “I tell you, Peter, you will deny [even] knowing me three times before the rooster crows today.”
